Common Questions

Brush With Grief is for children, teens and adults who are carrying grief, loss, transition, or change and want a creative way to spend time with it. You do not need to be in crisis, and you do not need to have the right words for what you are feeling. This workshop is a good fit for people grieving a death, a pet, a relationship, a major life change, caregiving loss, identity change, or a season of life that has ended.

No. Brush With Grief is not about being an artist or making something perfect. The focus is on choosing materials, creating a personal brush, reflecting on what it represents, and having a supportive space to share as much or as little as you want. Simple, imperfect, and meaningful are all welcome.

Materials are provided for the workshop, including brush handles, natural fibers, fur, plant materials, binding materials, and other decorative elements. Participants are also welcome to bring a small personal item if they would like to include something meaningful, such as pet fur, a feather, a piece of fabric, a small charm, or a natural object. Personal items are optional.

Pet grief and life transition grief are welcome here. Grief does not only happen after the death of a person. People also grieve animals, homes, relationships, work roles, health changes, caregiving changes, identity shifts, and futures that did not unfold the way they hoped. If it feels like grief to you, it belongs in the room.

Brush With Grief is a therapeutic workshop, but it is not a replacement for individual therapy or crisis support. The workshop offers a structured, creative, and supportive space for reflection, meaning-making, and connection. You are always in control of how much you share, and there is no pressure to tell your full story.
